Volunteering FAQs
1. How many hours are required per family or child?
- 15 hours per family – 8U and up
- 6U - 6 hours per family
- Volunteer hours must be completed by 8/31, or the full amount will be charged to your credit card/check on file.
2. How do I find out about volunteer opportunities?
- All volunteer opportunities will be listed within DIBS.
- We will send email reminders to all registered player’s families through SportsEngine
3. What roles are available for volunteering?
Tournament Roles
- Field prep – Rake and chalk fields in between games and as needed, before and after games. See below for a how-to video on field prep! Field prep volunteers are typically grouped in either teams of 2 for one field, or at Aquila, in teams of three to cover two fields.
- Concessions – Opening time include concessions set up and closing time includes clean up and restocking.
- T-Shirt sales – Depending on the tournament, we may also sell T-shirts throughout the weekend and if this role is needed, it will be posted in DIBS.
Team Roles
Team roles are entered into DIBS by the board as communicated by the team's head coach. Team roles cover all volunteer hours required for the year.
- Head coach – One per team
- Assistant coaches – Two per team
- Team Manager
- Gamechanger – This role must commit to completing Gamechanger for the majority of the games for the season, and if unable to cover, you are responsible for finding a backup.
The above roles are not shared roles unless pre-cleared by the board. In addition, if shared roles are approved, 50% of the required volunteer hours for the year will still be required.
4. Can teenagers be hired to complete volunteer hours?
Yes! We have a list of teens interested in working available upon request. Please note that for concessions work, we require pre-approval for any teens under 15 years old hired to work volunteer hours.
You pay the teen directly for the hours worked – we recommend $12 per hour. This payment is not handled through SLPFA.
